Bamboo House

Why should you consider building a Bamboo House ?
Did you know that Bamboo is the most renewable building construction material on earth.
We live in a world with an exploding population where every one of us have the same basic needs of life – food, drinking water, shelter, clothes, and transportation.
Because of the remarkable properties of “Timber” bamboo this extra ordinary renewable material is being rediscovered as a clean green building material of the future helping to reduce global warming and carbon emission, restore native habitat, protect watersheds and raise communities out of poverty.
“Timber” Bamboo is an extremely strong fiber. It has twice the compression strength of concrete and roughly the same strength-to-weight ratio of steel but getting the market to fully understand the benefits of using bamboo requires an open mind, imagination and a bit of re-education.
Bamboo Living Homes are made with a special “Timber” bamboo species. The poles used in the houses are 3 ½ inches in diameter and the wall of the bamboo pole is ¾ inch in thickness. The hollow tube shape gives a strength factor of 1.9 times more than an equivalent solid wood beam. The exceptionally strong and flexible poles are able to withstand the extreme forces imposed on a house during hurricanes and earthquakes.
Bamboo Living Homes are the first and only bamboo dwellings in the world that have achieved ICC-ES certification from the International Code Council. This means that they have passed and surpassed all conventional tests and can be permitted anywhere in the world. In addition, the engineering for our homes recently surpassed the strictest hurricane codes by Florida’s Dade County compliances.
Bamboo Homes have the capability to design, build and deliver your green home in as quickly as three months. Typically, however, your eco house will arrive about six months after you place your order. Mortgage companies are available to finance our homes and all of our Bamboo Living house owners have homeowners and fire insurance coverage.
Bamboo Living offers bamboo home building options to suit every budget and lifestyle. They range from the Bamboo Commons Collection (starting at $60 per square foot), to the Sands Signature Collection (from $80 per square foot), to the Custom Bamboodist (starting at $100 per square foot) and Eco Villages, for multi-dwelling communities. The collections were designed by architect and company co-founder David Sands, AIA, a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professional (LEED-AP).
Bamboo House Construction
Bamboo has been used as House building material for centuries and is widely available throughout the World (35 million acres worldwide are covered in bamboo), is being rediscovered today. Its cost-effectiveness and ability to endure adverse environmental forces make it one of the most promising construction materials on the planet.
Bamboo’s unique aesthetic appearance has been exploited in design and furniture building. The highly visual and engaging Grow Your Own House will open your eyes to the beauty and lightness of bamboo structures and designs. Bamboo–a widely available and renewable resource almost as strong as steel, yet very light–lends itself to architectural experiments. Buckminster Fuller, Frei Otto, Renzo Piano, Shoei Yoh, and Arata Isozaki are a few of the millions of people worldwide using bamboo to create space and structure around them. Author and architect Simn Vulez pioneered bamboo construction in his home country of Colombia. His most recent and spectacular project, which is prominently featured in Grow Your Own House, is the Expo 2000 pavilion for the ZERI Foundation. At over 120 feet in diameter and over 50 feet high, it is one of the largest bamboo structures in the world. Grow Your Own House includes all the latest trends of this cutting-edge revival.
